Sex & Love for Grownups: A No-Nonsense Guide to a Life of Passion (AARP)

Sex & Love for Grownups: A No-Nonsense Guide to a Life of Passion (AARP) Review

Timed to coincide with the release of AARP's 2004 Sexuality Survey in its 22-million-subscriber lifestyle magazine, For Adults Only offers candid insights on the romance and relationship issues uppermost in the minds of grownups.

Q: My husband wants me to talk dirty to him. Is there a book I can learn from?

Q: Our kids just left for college, and it's created a stillness between my husband and me. How can we reconnect?

Q: My wife and I are in our 50s, and we have sex once a week, but it's not enough for me. Is this normal?

Now the most poignant and provocative questions sent to AARP The Magazine's "Modern Love" column have been collected-and answered-in a new book, For Adults Only, that reveals everything you always wanted to know about sex, love, and relationships at age 40 and beyond.

With recent behavioral surveys showing that healthy Americans stay sexually active into their 70s and up, this is the perfect forum to find out what others are thinking-and doing-about finding a new partner, making love, and making love last.

A Faith for Grown-Ups: A Midlife Conversation about What Really Matters

A Faith for Grown-Ups: A Midlife Conversation about What Really Matters Review

Approximately thirty percent of baby boomers were baptized and raised Catholic. After years of practicing a religion that seemed dry and rigid, many ìboomersî drifted away from the faith. A Faith for Grown-Ups reintroduces Catholicism to those seeking to reconnect with their faith. With wit and keen understanding, Lockwood explores the common experience of growing up Catholic from the 1950s through the 1970s and invites disconnected Catholics to encounter a faith for grown-ups.

Writing from an adult perspective for an adult audience, Lockwood covers all the major aspects of Catholicism and offers practical suggestions for cultivating an adult faith. In personal stories, both humorous and heartrending, Lockwood traces his personal pilgrimage from the Catholicism of his childhood to the rich, meaningful spirituality of his adulthood.

Literacy 5. Law and Order 6. Rights and Responsibilities 7. Health and Wellness 8. Safety and Security When addressed clearly, these eights keys enable parents-safely and sufficiently-to provide today's i-KIDS the open doors they need to leave school and enter the world. Stepchildren Speak: 10 Grown-Up Stepchildren Teach Us How to Build Healthy Stepfamilies

Stepchildren Speak: 10 Grown-Up Stepchildren Teach Us How to Build Healthy Stepfamilies Review

We've heard from the parents and stepparents. We've heard from the child psychologists and family counselors. Now let the children speak.

Here are the wise words of ten children who grew up in stepfamilies. They are young enough to remember the experience well and old enough to have learned from it. They not only offer their poignant stories, but they add advice specifically marked for parents, stepparents, and even stepchildren. They come from different races, economic levels and from various parts of the country, but all of their stories reverberate with truth and a desire to help others.

The author, a parent and stepparent herself, knew the right questions to ask and knew how to help them translate their sometimes painful experience into lessons from which all of us can learn.

If It Ain't Got That Swing: The Rebirth of Grown-Up Culture

If It Ain't Got That Swing: The Rebirth of Grown-Up Culture Review

In a world dominated by teenagers, it is easy to forget that popular culture once catered to adults. A countercultural "Gen-X" writer shows in his new book that the rise of rock and roll and the suburbanization of America have produced a narcissistic society drained of joy and hope. Yet in the spreading revival of swing dancing-an artifact of a more sophisticated and convivial way of life-he detects a harbinger of cultural renewal.

Mr. Judge recalls the Washington neighborhood of Shaw, birthplace of Duke Ellington and once a stylish hub of black culture, which was suddenly devastated by riots and radicalism in the 1960s-a fate emblematic of urban America in general. Suburbia's simultaneous conquest of America delivered the death blow to adult culture. Without the traditional "third place"-the tavern, dance hall, or corner post office where neighbors once met-civic life withered and families retreated into domestic cocoons.

The rock-and-roll culture that replaced the ballrooms of Shaw is adolescent, narcissistic, and humorless to the point of suicide. And despite its pretense of rebellion, rock has become the establishment-elitist, intolerant, and hollow. Mr. Judge finds true rebellion in the exuberant, breezy, joyful world of swing, a world where people are not afraid to have fun. With its emphasis on elegance and maturity, practice and skill, and complementary roles for men and women, it is an antidote to our demoralized popular culture.
